"'Twas the week before Christmas
and all across town
everyone was shopping,
not a parking place to be found.
A son with pneumonia,
prescription called in.
To Costco I headed
with feelings of chagrin.
Lines there are normal,
but who could have guessed
the week before Christmas
it'd be such a mess.
I parked in the boonies
and walked half a mile.
All those Christmas shoppers
crowded every aisle.
What have we done
to make such a fuss?
Is this really about Jesus
or is it more about us?
"It's all about giving,"
we say to the kids.
Then we ask them to make us
a Christmas wish list.
I couldn't help but wonder,
walking back to the car.
Is this what Jesus intended
when He was born in a barn?"
and all across town
everyone was shopping,
not a parking place to be found.
A son with pneumonia,
prescription called in.
To Costco I headed
with feelings of chagrin.
Lines there are normal,
but who could have guessed
the week before Christmas
it'd be such a mess.
I parked in the boonies
and walked half a mile.
All those Christmas shoppers
crowded every aisle.
What have we done
to make such a fuss?
Is this really about Jesus
or is it more about us?
"It's all about giving,"
we say to the kids.
Then we ask them to make us
a Christmas wish list.
I couldn't help but wonder,
walking back to the car.
Is this what Jesus intended
when He was born in a barn?"
